INSPIRING NOVELIST AND AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR

In the winter of 1968, Wayne Thomas Batson was born 6 weeks premature and almost didn’t make it, setting the stage for a life of suspense and adventure. A heart full of exploring and a wee bit o’ mischief, he spent his early years building forts in the woods, drawing pictures in class (including audible sound effects. Sorry, Mrs. Sugars!), crabbing and crayfishing, playing lead guitar in a heavy metal band, and quoting dialogue from Labyrinth and The Princess Bride.

Wayne Thomas Batson has spent the last 33 years teaching Reading and English to middle school students in Maryland. It was during the early years of teaching that his kids challenged him to “write a story just for them.” That short story became his first novel, The Door Within. It was the encouragement of kids over the years that inspired Batson to write and seek publication.

Batson’s professional writing career began in 2005 with the publication of fantasy epic, The Door Within. Since then, The Door Within, The Final Storm, Isle of Swords, and Isle of Fire have all appeared on the CBA Young Adult Bestseller List, including #2 for The Final Storm Fall 2007. To date, Batson has penned or coauthored 22 novels and has sold well over half a million copies.

Wayne Thomas Batson and his extraordinary wife of 30 years make their home in Stormhaven, a woodsy abode in the hills of Western Maryland. Their four adult children and two grandchildren bring them endless joy with the promise of many adventures to come. Batson gives thanks to God for the abundant life he’s been given. He continues to write for kids and adults because he believes that, on a deep level, we all long for another world and yearn to do something that matters.

Batson’s works have garnered many awards and nominations including:

Mom's Choice Award

Silver Moonbeam Award

Lamplighter Award

Cybil Award

ACFW Book of the Year Award

The Clive Staples Award

Batson and Isle of Swords, his pirate adventure novel, were featured on the front page of The Washington Post, and he was interviewed live on Fox’s nationally televised morning show.
